Derma roller involves micro puncture of the skin down to the dermis to stimulate collagen production.  Derma roller is also known as micro needling and collagen induction therapy.  It is has been referred to as the natural alternative to botox and dermal fillers.

The concept of skin needling (also known as collagen induction therapy) is based on the skin's natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical damage such as cuts, burns and othe abraisions. Immediately after an injury occurs to the skin, our body re-uses the damaged collagen and elastin fibres as well as othe damaged skin components to produce new skin structures. Skin needlingallows for controlled induction of the skin's self-repair mechanism by creating micro-injuries which trigger new collagen synthesis. The result is smoother, firmer and younger looking skin. Results can be quite spectacular.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

Visible signs of skin rejuvination are seen just after 6-8 weeks following the procedure and continue to improve for up to a year.

A course of three sessions, at 6-8 week intervals, is usually recommended to achieve optimum results; however you will notice great improvement after just one treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS ON THE DAY?

1. Arrive: The clinic will give you instructions on how to prepare for arrival at the treatment location including instructions on cleansing and make-up
2. Anaesthetise: Before the procrdure commences a topical anaesthetic will be applied to your skin to make it a pain free experience. It will take 20-30 minutes to numb the skin.
3. Application: The practitioner will the gently roll the Titanium Dermaroller  accross the area to be treated to create thousands of minascule sub-cutaneous injuries. You will not feel any appreciable pain. The procedure takes around 20 minutes.
4. Depart: The clinic will gove you post-treatment instructions.

HOW WILL I LOOK IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT?

After the procedure, your skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way to moderate sunburn. You will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch.

This will diminish greatly after a few hours following the treatment and within the next 48 hours your skin will be completely healed.

After 5 days, there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.

The length of the down time and recovery depends on the microneedle size used for your treatment. You will be informed about your predicted post-treatment appearance during the consultation.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE TREATMENT?

1. Skin priming is ideally started 4 weeks before your appointment, however 1 week is acceptable and common. Skin priming aids the healing process and ensures the best results from skin needling.The use of stable forms of vitamin C and vitamin A serums in the weeks before skin needling 'jump statrs' the process of collagen production, accelerating the benefits from treatment. Conveniently these products are also recommended for post treatment healing making Medik8 primers an economical option
2. Use vitamin C in the morning and vitamin A at night. You should continue with your usual cleansing, moisturising and sun protection routine. Follow the full product directions and any advice given to you by your practitioner.
3. Clients prone to hyperpigmentation are advised to commence a lightening treatment with Medik8 White Balance Serum. Those who bruise easily should use Red Alert Body all over the treatment area for 1-2 days before each skin needling treatment and continue for 2-3 days post treatment.
